George Herring, Ph.D.

Founder and CEO of Diffract Technology

Hi - I’m George. Shortly after completing my Ph.D. on Holographic Sensing at Stanford University, I invented a new way to precisely sense arbitrary 3D surface topology (sub-10um). With a fundamentally novel set of <awesome!> optical design principles that form the basis of Diffract Technology Inc, we are developing an exciting series of products that will launch the way into the next generation of holographic sensors and displays.

I hold a Ph.D. (2020) and Master of Science (2017) from Stanford University in Electrical Engineering, and a Bachelors Degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering from Olin College (2014). If you’re interested in my past projects or publications, my CV is available here. In August of 2020, I founded Diffract Technology, Inc. and am currently the company’s CEO.

Prof. Lambertus Hesselink, Ph.D.

Expert in Holography and Optics, Member of the Board of Directors

Lambertus (“Bert”) Hesselink is a career expert in holographic devices. He has founded numerous successful startups in the space, including Senvid, Inc (Founded in 1999, acquired by Western Digital in 2008), Siros Technologies, Inc. (1997), MultiDigit Corp. (2003), and Secure Content Storage Association, LLC (formed between Warner Bros, Fox, Western Digital and Sandisk in 2012).

Arguably the foremost industry leader and technical expert in the world on holography, Bert currently runs a laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, that has specialized in holographic data storage and sensing. His work in the field has led the technical space for decades.

Bert is a member of the Board of Directors of Diffract Technology, and was George’s Ph.D. Thesis Advisor at Stanford from 2014-2020.
